This week’s reflection: The Eternal Word
Do you need words of life spoken over you or someone you care for?
Key Verses: In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it. John 1:1-5
We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. 1 John 1:1-2
God has chosen to reveal Himself throughout all time and to all mankind in many ways- through creation, through the ancient prophets, through the Holy Spirit, through Scripture, through divine encounters and manifestations, through those with whom we have relationship and ultimately through the Person of His Son, Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 1:1)
Take time today to become aware of the many different ways God is communicating with you because He longs to have a deeper relationship with you.
In John 1:1, the Holy Spirit speaking through John gives Jesus a title that is profoundly significant- ‘Logos’ or Word. Logos is the Greek word meaning “the expression of intelligent thought.” It can also be thought of as the total expression of God to man. Jesus embodied the total message. He was and is the eternal and exact expression of God’s thoughts and essence. (Hebrews 1:3). Jesus embodies and communicates the essence, the divine life and light of the Father, which like John, we can touch, see and proclaim.
Reflective Prayer: What aspect of God’s thoughts and /or nature does He want to reveal to you at this time? Ask Jesus what aspect of his nature he wants to reveal to you today?
Reflective Prayer: Take time to behold Jesus. As you continue to behold this aspect of God, you will become more like Him. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
One aspect of ‘Logos’ is ‘Rhema’- the uttered, spoken or written words of God. Rhema is the word by which we live and stand against the enemy (Matthew 4:4) and fight. The recorded and uttered words of God are called the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). On the Mount of Temptation, Jesus demonstrated the authority and power of declaring God’s word.
We know that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are speaking in intercession for you and for our city (Romans 8:27, 34). These words come from the heart of the Father and from the testimony of the New Covenant. Jesus reveals the secrets of Heaven to His friends. (Matthew 13:11)
“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15
Reflective Prayer: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the secrets of Heaven to your heart:
- What are words are being spoken in Heaven about you – about our city?
- What are the promises and provisions God is highlighting from the Scriptures that are for us, our families and our city?
Take time to ask the Holy Spirit these questions and then write down what you hear.
Craft these words into a powerful declaration that releases heaven on earth.
We would love to hear the declarations God has shown you for Melbourne and post them so that we can all be speaking in agreement with the Rhema of God.
Send your declarations to firstname.lastname@example.org
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life. Yes, I am the bread of life! Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.” John 6:47-51
