Are you utterly reliant on God’s Presence?
This week’s reflection: Are you utterly reliant on God’s Presence?
Key verse: “The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?” And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.” Exodus 33:14-17
When we love our God with all our heart; all our soul; all our mind and all our strength we cannot envisage a moment apart from Him. We won’t let anything separate us from His love! We trust His way for us.
Our Father’s purpose for us is perfect in every way! He has designed personal assignments for us. Our Father has a unique destiny for us each that we are uniquely equipped for. He has plans that will draw on all the experiences of our lives; roles that will fulfil our deepest desires!
We can’t imagine anything more delicious than supping with Jesus and working from a place of resting in Him.
We can’t imagine anything more exciting than going as His Spirit leads! His strategy is perfect. His timing is perfect.
Take some time to reflect on ways you have encountered God’s Presence.
- Are you living in the joy and peace of God’s Presence?
- Are you hungry for more of God’s Presence?
- Are you utterly reliant on God’s Presence?
Why wouldn’t we wait on Father’s way of doing things? Why wouldn’t we want to sup with Jesus? Why wouldn’t we rely on Holy Spirit’s Presence?
Sometimes we resist God’s Presence because we have a distorted picture of who our Father is – and what He will want us to do. It’s easy when you know we worship a good, good God, a Father just like Jesus, full of mercy and compassion! It’s easy when we know Holy Spirit is a gentle, gracious counsellor.
“And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” Exodus 33:19
Some have accepted a counterfeit.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” Matthew 7:21-23
Some have a form of godliness but deny its power.
“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” 2 Timothy 3:1-5
Sometime we can miss out on God’s Presence accidentally because we are distracted and not tuned in. To enjoy fellowship with our Lord we need to wait on His Presence - which often manifests when we come apart to cherish and adore Him in prayer & worship. God’s Presence also manifests when we rest in deep trust and listen for His leading. As we move with Him, His Presence is our constant guide and we become reliant on being where He is; doing what He is doing; saying what He is saying.
Are you seeing breakthrough in your life and in those around you?
Nothing brings spiritual breakthrough, healing and conviction power like the Presence of God!
In our passion to serve well, present the gospel to our friends and see truth set people free it’s easy to rush into battle ahead of God or to go slow and miss opportunities in his will.
The Israelites did it over and over.
“Then you replied, “We have sinned against the Lord. We will go up and fight, as the Lord our God commanded us.” So every one of you put on his weapons, thinking it easy to go up into the hill country. But the Lord said to me, “Tell them, ‘Do not go up and fight, because I will not be with you. You will be defeated by your enemies.’” So I told you, but you would not listen. You rebelled against the Lord’s command and in your arrogance you marched up into the hill country. The Amorites who lived in those hills came out against you; they chased you like a swarm of bees and beat you down…” Deuteronomy 1:41-44
As an army strategist, David learned to wait on God for breakthrough.
“The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.
Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. Teach me your way, Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations. I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” - Psalm 27:1-8,11-14
Did you know God’s Presence has fallen deeply across our city since Pray for Melbourne commenced in May?
Continuous night and day has continued at Arrow on Swanston since May – and many teams are now joining. See http://prayformelbourne.com.au/
Continuous day and night prayer was also held during May prayer for the 65 suburbs of the Yarra Ranges. People from across the church continue to stay connected, joining prayer at each other’s local church and host days and season of collaborative prayer. See http://prayformelbourne.com.au/
Richard Lloyd is one of the servant leaders, a spiritual father in the move of God in the Yarra Ranges. He has been given a vision that is a very relevant picture of what we are facing in the challenge to rely on God’s Presence in this season.
God showed Richard a vision of a minefield in a desert like Afghanistan. Jesus was asking us to cross this minefield but warned us of the great danger ahead. The mines under the ground around us are moving every few seconds! Jesus assured us we can cross safely if we move exactly where and immediately when he speaks – “Step forward.” “Stop” “Step left.” “Step back.” “Wait.”
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21
“We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.” Psalm 33:20-22
“I waited patiently and expectantly for the Lord; And He inclined to me and heard my cry. He brought me up out of a horrible pit [of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock, steadying my footsteps and establishing my path. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear [with great reverence] And will trust confidently in the Lord.” Psalm 40:1 AMP
“For God alone my soul waits in silence and quietly submits to Him, For my hope is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; My fortress and my defence, I will not be shaken or discouraged. On God my salvation and my glory rest; He is my rock of [unyielding] strength, my refuge is in God. Trust [confidently] in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him. God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62:5-8 AMP
Let’s pray our Melbourne friends have an encounter with the Presence of the living God and receive revelation of their need for Jesus and His compelling beauty.
Ask Father to prompt you with names/faces of people He would like you pray for. Take some time to wait on Him. Make a list and pray for them each day for the next month.
“I wait [patiently] for the Lord, my soul [expectantly] waits, And in His word do I hope. My soul waits for the Lord More than the watchmen for the morning; More than the watchmen for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is lovingkindness, And with Him is abundant redemption.” Psalm 130: 5-7
How are you moved to pray about this? Pray from your heart – in your own words.
Jesus, we come to you as the weary and burdened and so you will give us rest.
We take your yoke upon us and learn from you, for your yoke is easy and your burden is light.
You are gentle and humble in heart and we will find rest for your souls.
No-one knows the Father except you, Jesus.
Reveal him to us and to those around us who need to know him as their Father,
we pray in your name. Amen
Prayers we are praying:
- Father, we are so sorry we act as self-sufficient orphans. We don’t know our need of you or the joy, peace, love and life we are missing. We cry out with creation for the sons of God to arise and for the children of the world to know their adoption as sons and daughters of the Most High.
- Jesus we hear you knocking. Come and sup with us. We long to be in your Presence and to bring you joy.
- Holy Spirit, we repent that we cut you short. We fall when we could fly. We strive when we could soar. We invite you to attune our spirits, souls and bodies to your work in us and through us.
Pray Holy Spirit will quicken you to opportunities to share the gospel with them and with those you meet as you go…
- Father enable us to discern your love for those around us so we will see them as you do and respond as you would to release Kingdom power healing, miracles and restoration in our world.
- Jesus, as we soak in you may your Word arise in us to flow through us in due season, bringing hope, conviction, salvation and freedom to those around us.
- Holy Spirit, may we discern your invitations – your timing, your pathway so we may be those who go with you and bring light and hope to those we meet.
“Wait for and expect the Lord and keep His way, And He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.” Psalm 37:34 AMP
